BEST OF 2024: POP-PUNK/EMO/PUNK
My favorite debut albums and extended plays from pop-punk, emo, hardcore, and punk artists.
Welcome my Best of 2024 newsletter!
I listened to a lot of new releases this year, and my Spotify playlists are obnoxiously large with my favorites from 2024. But I am going to do my best to pick some standouts, and deliver them to you by genre/vibe.
Today, we’re focusing on debuts from pop-punk, emo, hardcore, and punk artists from around the world.
Bureau De Change - Are You Flirting With Me? (EP)
For Fans Of: punk | IDLES | Lambrini Girls | Amyl & The Sniffers
Release Date: October 2024
If you also think “James Bond is a fucking prick!,” then you’ll love this punk extended play from the UK.
Paper Flowers - Dandelion
For Fans Of: shoegaze | emo | Balance and Composure | Hawthorne Heights | Basement
Release Date: February 2024
This band delivered a great mix of melodic shoegaze and pop-punk tracks with energetic vocals, linking them to a nostalgic sound from other greats in the genre.
New Age Thief - Stars Align
For Fans Of: emo-rock | pop punk | Mom Jeans | Real Friends | Heart Attack Man
Release Date: October 2024
This debut album from Chicago’s New Age Thief is full of sharp hooks and raw guitar, and teeters between emo-rock and nu-metal influences.
loveshovel - The Only Good Thing I’m Bad At
For Fans Of: punk rock | alternative | Amyl & The Sniffers | IDLES | Mannequin Pussy
Release Date: February 2024
I throw this Australian album on anytime a crypto-bro or internet man pisses me off.
Dummy Pass - Gangbusters!
For Fans Of: pop punk | midwest emo | Carly Cosgrove | Tigers Jaw | Joyce Manor | Rival Schools
Release Date: September 2024
This band embraces that 2000s pop-punk/alternative sound, akin to bands like Title Fight, Rival Schools, and other Philly contemporaries like Carly Cosgrove.
PUSCH - Bow To Me (EP)
For Fans Of: hardcore | punk | Turnstile | No Pressure | DRAIN
Release Date: February 2024
PUSCH emerged in the Philadelphia hardcore scene with this really fantastic EP. It goes hard and fast, coming in at just 8 minutes in length. Stumbling on this EP this week was a blessing for me, and I can’t wait to avoid getting kicked in the face watching this band play here someday.
That’s it for this week! If you want to check out my full, running list of the Best of 2024 debuts, you can find that playlist here. If you check out any of these artists or have suggestions for me, I’ll meet you in the comment section below. Otherwise, I’ll see you next time, you legend!
